2020.09.23 21:39 cece3944 LPT for men whose father might not have been around enough to tell them these words of wisdom:

  1. Go for women you perceive to be "out of your league". You'll surprise yourself.
  2. Never have sex with anyone that doesn't want it as much as you.
  3. Never hit anyone unless they are an immediate threat.
  4. Every hat should have a purpose.
  5. Never take her to the movies on the first date.
  6. Learn to wet shave.
  7. Nothing looks more badass than a well-tailored suit.
  8. Shave with the grain on the first go-around.
  9. Always look a person in the eye when you talk to them.
  10. Buy a plunger before you need a plunger.
  11. Exercise makes you happy. Walk, run, lift, or play sports.
  12. Brush your teeth before you put on your tie.
  13. A small amount of your paycheck should go directly to your savings account every month.
  14. Call your parents every week.
  15. Never wear a clip-on tie.
  16. Give a firm handshake.
  17. Compliment her shoes.
  18. Never leave a pint unfinished.
  19. If you aren't confident, fake it. It will come.
  20. You can tell the size of a man by the size of things that bother him.
  21. Be conscious of your body language.
  22. The only reason to ever point a gun at someone is if you intend to shoot them.
  23. Always stand to shake someone's hand.
  24. Never lend anything you can't afford to lose.
  25. Ask more than you answer. The majority of people like to talk about themselves.
  26. Keep a change of extra clothes at your workplace.
  27. Buy high-quality tools, so you only have to buy them once.
  28. Manliness is not only being able to take care of yourself, but others as well.
  29. Go with the decision that will make for a good story.
  30. When you walk, look straight ahead, not at your feet.
  31. Nice guys don't finish last. Boring guys do.
  32. Find your passion and figure out how to get paid for it.
  33. Don't let the little head do the thinking for the big head.
  34. No matter their job or status in life, everyone deserves your respect.
  35. The most important thing you can learn is personal responsibility. Bad things happen, it's your job to overcome them.
  36. The first one to get angry loses.
  37. Do what needs to be done without complaining. It won't help speed things up.
  38. Never stop learning.
  39. Always go out in public dressed like you're about to meet the love of your life.
  40. Don't change yourself just to make someone happy, unless that someone is you.
  41. If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room.
  42. Luck favors the prepared.
  43. Women find confidence sexy as hell.
  44. Do whatever you want to do with your life, but be the best at it.
  45. No one is on their deathbed wishing they spent more time at work. Enjoy your life.

2020.09.23 19:55 pointfulDani My Timeline

I'm 16 years old and transfeminine/ enby, but sometimes I feel like I'm doing something morally wrong by transitioning.
I decided to use my social media history and old genders to make a timeline of everything that could have led to me being... well, myself, I guess.
Anyways it would be nice if someone took the time to look at this and maybe even comment :)
-2004: Assigned male at birth.
-9/9/09: Learned about what sex is.
-4/1/16: Realized I'm bisexual.
-4/6/18: Had my first boyfriend.
-11/15/18: Had my first girlfriend.
-8/29/19: Asked my friends to call me female pronouns in school; it only lasted for about 2 months because they refused to.
-9/25/19: Drew a picture of myself as a girl to express how I felt.
-10/17/19: Wrote about myself as a girl in my journal
-11/6/19: Started writing a comic with my friend where the premise was that everyone's genders were swapped; we only ever wrote one page.
-1/24/20: Overdosed and was in the hospital for two weeks.
-1/27/20: Told one of the hospital nurses about how I wanted to be a girl and was dismissed.
-3/31/20: Tried on makeup; before I realized I was transgender.
-4/26/20: Wrote a poem in which I referred to myself as transgender. (The egg cracked here).
-5/18/20: Wore my mom's clothes and was happy about it.
-7/07/20 (Age 15): Told my dad about my feelings and wanting to be a girl.
-7/14/20: Came out to the therapist I was going to at the time.
-7/19/20: Saw myself as a girl in the mirror for the first time.
-8/5/20: Started going by proper name and pronouns with family.
-8/6/20: Went out in makeup for the first time.
-8/13/20: Wore my own girl's-cut clothes for the first time.
-8/15/20: Came out as trans on some of my social media accounts.
-9/01/20: Bought girl's-cut clothes and panties at the store.
-9/05/20: Started wearing girl's-cut clothing exclusively. Both in public and at home.
-9/08/20: Did full-face makeup for the first time.
-9/09/20: Was refused HRT at a doctor's office because of age (16).
-9/14/20: Had my first appointment with a gender therapist (Dr. Sara Steelman).

2020.09.23 18:32 GalacticGrandma Upping My Dosage on Zoloft/Sertraline -- What to Expect?

My Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC) and I are discussing raising my medication from 50 mg to 75 mg.
I currently take 50 mg of Lupin-brand Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride), and it's worked great for me since about age 13. The only major side effect I've had (as with many SSRI users) is sexual dysfunction/low sex-drive, but this side effect has been strongly mitigated when I started taking 150 mg of Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride XL/extended release) in 2018. We started my Zoloft perscription at 100 mg but had to half the dose after I started to show greater signs of aggression. I am 20 now, and while I am relatively the same weight as I was then (~170 lbs.), we think my hormone situation may have changed so I may not have the same reaction to a dose change. I am however, very medication sensative. For example, when we took a generic/non-Lupin zoloft, I began to experience almost immediate nightmares for a week when I was about 16.
I am hoping to raise my Zoloft to limit PMS, increase impulse control, and generally lower the neurotocism I've been experiencing since I started college in 2018. I wanted to ask what behaviors I might expect to see with the medication change, or if there is anything I or my loved ones should be on the look out for. If anyone has any personal experience with a similar change on Zoloft, hearing your story would be greatly appreciated.

2020.09.23 12:09 MindfulMowgli This way of life could save the world!

My grandpa once told me: "Listen dipsh*t, if you rely on someone else for your food... then they own you AND your lovely wife."
Well... my crazy grandpa wasn't totally wrong. There is simply too many people on this planet and not enough resources to go around. All the family's generational wealth has been either divided into dust or soaked up by the rich 1%. The division of wealth and power in this world is so unbalanced, it's sick and saddening. Because of this, there are many people struggling who are so tormented and defeated... homeless, unemployed, or working as wage slaves (because overpopulation makes for cheap labor); that they feel like there is no place for them in the future and that suicide is the only option. In our current world, the right to eat, shelter, and drink fresh water are not guaranteed rights to ALL individuals! That fact is absolutely just mind blowing. Who's to blame? Humanity's greed, overpopulation, and poor distribution of efforts and resources, perhaps. (Rant over)
THE ETHICAL SOLUTION of a RADICAL NEW WORLD: In my opinion, The Great Pyramids of Egypt are a simple reminder of Maslow's 6-tier hierarchy of needs. When you take Maslow's pyramid and combined it with a hybrid of Homesteading and Universal Basic Income, something heavenly is born! Regardless of birth race, place, or poverty...I believe all people of earth and all governances should adjoin to fulfill the common goal that each living person has the right to have their Physiological needs met. We NEED to get people gardening and reconnected with their roots! (If we don't, people's nutritionless crappy diets will continue resulting in cancer and disease.) In my opinion, it's what we ALL NEED. I call it Maslow's Ark.
Maslow's Ark - Life on Earth should be modeled after Heaven; with a place and purpose prepared for you when you're born. When born to the Earth, you deserve the right to your basic physiological needs such as food, water, and shelter. (Not to struggle because your dirt poor parents selfishly birthed you to 'duck-tape' their failed marriage together... or because they get a child tax credit! \sarcasm**) We, The United People of Earth in order to transcend Maslow's Physiological needs as a birthright. Achieved by way of hybrid mix of self-sufficient homesteading and Universal Basic Income (UBI) payments. To transform and upgrade shitty land and broken homes into self-sufficient sustainable functional quality 2 or 4 Acre personalized ('green new deal'/ permaculture) homesteads and housing, thereby creating an economy of guaranteed paid jobs with the support of resources from local and world governances centrally focused on preparing places (aka Heavens on earth) for others and future generations. When working for Maslow's Ark, you are essentially doing the work of an Angel. (Biblically speaking, Naoh's Ark was a literal ship, but what is Planet Earth, but one giant Space Ship?) This way of life is my little brain-child and I would like to name it "Maslow's Ark."
We all have Physiological needs to live a fulfilled life. Nobody wants war. Nobody wants death or famine. I want to focus specifically on the 'end-cap' Tiers 1 & 6 of Maslow's pyramid as how they would look if applied to our current world. I think that all countries and individuals with a net wealth over $10m must contribute generously of resources by a majority vote (perhaps) via coordination of the United Nations leverage to kick-start this.
A quick refresher of Maslow's 6-tier pyramid:
Tier 1. Physiological needs - these are biological requirements for human survival, e.g. air, food, water, shelter, clothing, warmth, sex, sleep.
Tier 2. Safety needs - Once an individual’s physiological needs are satisfied, the needs for security and safety become salient. Protection from greed and corruption.
Tier 3. Love and belongingness needs - after physiological and safety needs have been fulfilled, the third level of human needs is social and involves feelings of belongingness. The need for interpersonal relationships motivates behavior
Tier 4. Esteem needs are the fourth level in Maslow’s hierarchy - which Maslow classified into two categories: (i) esteem for oneself (dignity, achievement, mastery, independence) and (ii) the desire for reputation or respect from others (e.g., status, prestige).
Tier 5. Self-actualization needs are the highest level in Maslow's hierarchy, and refer to the realization of a person's potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences. Maslow (1943) describes this level as the desire to accomplish everything that one can, to become the most that one can be.
Tier 6. Transcendence - the very highest and most inclusive or holistic levels of human consciousness, behaving and relating, as ends rather than means, to oneself, to significant others, to human beings in general, to other species, to nature, and to the cosmos. AKA - To Help other's Self-Actualize, beginning with Physiological Needs.
**How it works, in a nut shell:**If you don't have kids, you're a hero and don't need to work much. If you have 1 child, you must work Part-Time for Maslow's Ark. If you have 2 children, you must work Full-Time for Maslow's Ark.
How it will work in detail (Beta v1.3):
No Children Pledge:
  1. At the age of 15, you graduate from a life skills school and may inherit the choice of either: Option A - Inherit a paid-for 2 acre prepared homestead and receive 70% ($840usd per month) UBI Payments. Option B - Assigned a non-arable rent-free apartment with 80% UBI payments ($960us per month). Option C - You live life freestyle, like in an RV, conversion van, or you're homeless, or a homestead/apartment isn't available or prepared for you yet; you shall receive 100% ($1200) UBI payments. *For either option A,B, or C; the child-free individual must perform volunteer work for Maslow's Ark 1 day per week (4 flexible days per month) for 20 years. *Your choice depends on if you preference for living in-town or out-of-town. (The individual may have the opportunity to switch between these, once every 4 years.) *In addition, those who pledge not to have children are awarded a 1oz 24k Gold world medal of honor for serving the duty of your planet for their selfless child-free commitment. AKA If you don't have kids, you don't need to work much. (Through population de-escalation, these people are the real heroes and saviors of planet Earth.) *A married child-free couple may choose to consolidate in one of three ways: A. Consolidate to upgrade into a single 4-acre prepared homestead and each receive 65% ($780usd) UBI payments. C. Consolidate to a single 2-acre prepared homestead and each receive 80% UBI payments ($960us per month). B. Consolidate to upgrade into a non-arable single family home and each receive 85% ($1020usd) UBI payments. D. Consolidate to a single apartment, but each receive 90% ($1,080us) UBI Payments. (It's these individuals that will have the most financial momentum to start a business, be teachers, or become BacheloMaster Degree Students if they choose to pursue higher education with their free time, or for those that love to travel and see the world, and generally be the local economy stimulators.)
  2. For married parents caring for 1 child, When that child turns 2 years of age: Option A - If the parents have consolidated to a single 4-acre prepared homestead, they will each receive a 40% UBI ($480). Option B - If the parents have consolidated to a single 2-acre prepared homestead, they will each receive a 50% UBI ($600). Option C - If the parents have consolidated to a non-arable single-family home they will each receive a 55% UBI ($660). Option D - If the parents have consolidated to a single apartment they will each receive 60% UBI ($720). \In either option A,B,C, or D; the married couple must also commit to paid work for Maslow's Ark a minimum net of 5 days per week for 20 years. The parents may divide the work days between each other as a 0/5 or 2/3 split for example.* **If the couple's net 20 years of work service concludes prior to retirement, then their UBI payment will be 65% each until retirement.
  3. For married parents caring for 2 children, When that child turns 2 years of age: Option A - If the parents have consolidated to a single 4-acre prepared homestead, they will each receive 25% UBI ($300). Option B - If the parents have consolidated to a single 2-acre prepared homestead, they will each receive 30% UBI ($360). Option C - If the parents have consolidated to a non-arable single-family home they will each receive 40% UBI ($480). Option D - If the parents have consolidated to a single apartment they will each receive 45% UBI ($540). \In either option A,B,C, or D; the married couple must also commit to paid work for Maslow's Ark a minimum net of 7 days per week for 20 years. The parents may divide the work days between each other as a 0/7, 2/5, or 3/4 split for example. (The 3/4 split allows someone to always be home for the kids, animals, and vegetable gardens.)* **If the couple's net 20 years of work service concludes prior to retirement, then their UBI payment will be 55% each until retirement.
  4. Adoption: If a married couple with no children elect to adopt an orphan child they are awarded a 1oz 24k Gold world medal of honor for serving the duty of their planet. In addition to each keeping their 100% UBI payments, they also qualify for an additional 30% UBI payment until that child turns 16 (when they will have Maslow's Physiological needs fulfilled as a birthright).
Experimental Extra Options:
  1. An optional 6 acre prepared homestead capped at 20% UBI Payments.
  2. An optional 10 acre prepared homestead capped at 10% UBI Payments.
Universal conditions: -Individuals cannot sell or sub-lease their single family homes, homesteads, or apartments for profit, since they were prepared by The People of Earth, they inherently belong to The People of Earth. -World adoption of a 2-child limit. -Universal Healthcare (including birth control) -Free Education for All -Retirement age is 65, when you receive 90% UBI (instead of Social Security).
How Maslow's Ark Schooling Would Work: Schools would serve the communities multi-functionally; as food banks, seed banks, internship & job connection centers, and teaching children basic life skills. At the heart of every town city and community, there must be an large agricultural center (not just a vampire w-mart), with all the tools and resources needed to grow fruits, vegetables, care for farm animals, and other things like making compost. I propose combining the agricultural center and school as one system. If hungry people in the community desperately need food or seeds, (since the kids are growing food) they can return to their school for food and cheap supplies, functioning as the backbone and heart of every town. All current schools will be converted into large-scale self sufficient homesteads. The governances of the world will fund the solar and wind-powered system upgrades (making them off-grid which give the students a means to learn these systems). Ages 4-10 would be your standard basic Math, Language, Health, Cooking, and History. In addition, 50% of each school day would be learning how to grow food, raise chickens, milk cows, and maintain all aspects of a homestead. (Children will actually care for 2 reasons: A. Everyone loves baby chickens and B. The kids are promised a homestead at 15, and that's SO MUCH BRIGHT & POSITIVE ENERGY! (Unless they choose the apartment...)) (Every human should know how to be self-sufficient!) It's much better for children to during fresh organic milk and vitamin-rich tomatoes anyways, in those early development years. Ages 11-13 would be training in a more specific life-skill trade. Ages 14-15 would be internships where students go to job-sites to learn and assist the parents in Maslow's Ark homestead preparation. Additionally, the schools may also function as a free wholesome dating and room-mate pairing service as well as free marriages. World Governances would fund schools to build homes, (rather than the traditional mortgage) further making schools central work hubs for internships and parents.
Maslow's jobs may include (and be educationally centered around): -Housing & Apartment Rehabilitation (Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC) -Boosting soil Fertility & Compost Creation -Regional Food Gardening, Nurseries, & Research -Planting Permaculture Trees, Arborist, Lumber Mills -Building Greenhouses & Barns -Wood & Gas eventually replaced by fusion energy electricity plants -Solar, Wind, and Battery Technology/Service -Helping care for thy Elderly & Disabled neighbors -Farm Animal Care & breeding -Property, Homes, and Jobs bank coordinator -Small scale Electric Farm Equipment & Electric vehicle production & service. -Clean Water Production such as wells, ponds, rainwater and desalination. -100% Trash Reuse, Repurpose, & Recycling -Teaching all the aforementioned.
The Economy: Self sufficiency means less tax revenue for the government, but at the same time, (the US government is doing a terrible job at creating jobs and unemployment rates are skyrocketing. Capitalist governments don't care if businesses like w-mart or h-depot bleed towns dry of money and killed all the mom n' pop shops, or let robots take over factories. Between the green new deal, and working for Maslow's Ark homesteads, there would be millions of jobs created for regular every-day people. Every house with a big lawn could be retrofit as a homestead. Parents of kids must work, therefore they get charged taxes on their paychecks. Parents without children have a greater allowance to spend money on taxable goods and services. With The People of Earth circumventing the need to spend the bulk of their lives paying for a mortgage and having money tied into their mortgages, you will see a huge shift in people investing in other assets such as stocks, silver, gold, and bitcoin as a means of generational wealth, as it should be. What I also know is that when more people are incentivized to not have kids, the proceeding generations have more space and resources. Population de-escalation creates abundance. I theorize for example: 4 or 5generations from now, you might take 3 established fruiting 2 acre homesteads and combine them into a lavish 6 acre homestead for a single couple, where UBI payments become less and less necessary, until no longer needed. In this case, you'd have an abundance of food for sale, trade and barter, and plenty of gold medals inherited from child-free aunts and uncles. This is much more appealing than the choice of an apartment in a city. I think cities would dissipate and skyscrapers be used for vertical farming. (Like Thanos, without all the death.) (Disclaimer* I'm not an economist.) I would love to hear feedback if you agree or disagree that this would work and suggest improvements to make it work better.
In conclusion, my number and % ratios may need some fine tuning, but I believe this is the only functioning groundwork for the way that a simple and fulfilled life should be. I would love to hear feedback and I hope this concept of hybrid homesteading & % Ratio UBI becomes widely known and built upon.

2020.09.23 08:48 Bjern98 Here’s what story mode needs

I have been replaying Red Dead 2 for a week or so. I have only finished the game once and now I’m going real slowly and thoroughly through it, enjoying every bit of it.
I have made a small list of things Rockstar could bring to the game as an update or maybe even a DLC in the future, things I believe will make story mode even more astounding. (I won’t comment on Online, it’s a lost cause).
1 - The one thing Online does better than Story is clothing. It would be good to have all Online clothes on story mode. I want my Arthur to wear a poncho.
2 - More space on the stables. I like multiple horses, but my four Arabians take up all slots. We need at least to have it doubled.
3 - Let us ride, keep and bond with mules and donkeys. They look cute and would go superb with this ranch Arthur I have.
4 - Add legendary birds. The animals are cool, but imagine climbing a mounting and having a shot at legendary eagles, vultures, parrots, crows.
5 - Let us craft more than one fucking tonic or piece of ammo at a time. The game is not realistic when it comes to setting a fire during rain, it doesn’t have to be here either.
6 - Give us an option for carrying on more big pelt on our horses if we don’t mount it. I would gladly and proudly lead my horse on foot if that meant having one more big pelt in my place on her.
7 - And this is a big one: add lawmen routes thought the map instead of simply spawning them when we rob a train so we can feel rewarded for waiting and planing. Also don’t have them identify us even when wearing a mask.
8 - Stop making Arthur put his guns back on the saddle automatically. I ride for a bit and then O’fuckin’driscols or a pack of wolves ambush me and I have to cycle through all my guns. That is, when my horse doesn’t launch me into the air and I have to fight a damn bear or cougar with a cattleman revolver.
9 - Allow us to name outfits and save more than four. I like different Arthurs for different occasions. I like to dress up for each time I go out hunting, play poker in Saint Denis, rob a house, rob a train, sell stagecoaches I found with some people on it. That’s more than four situations. I already cycle through 20 guns. Let me cycle through 10 outfits.
10 - Make it so cops stop shooting and instead try to physically arrest you when you put your guns down. You may have noticed this, but talking to someone and aiming at them is the same button. Also, grabbing someone, getting on horse and sitting down to rest is also on the same button. That’s okay, but let me surrender, I don’t wanna die.
11 - Add horse races. A nice way to make money, betting, racing, illegal or not. Online already has it.
12 - Add illegal fist fights. I like the fighting system, really do. It’d be awesome to have Arthur earn some money punching folk.
13 - Add services just like we have on Online. Storylines can be created very easily this way. Let me deliver some stuff or help a lady moving. Protection jobs are nice, too.
14 - Make it so stealth works. I throw a knife at a guy’s head and his pal 20 yards away knows exactly which rock I’m hid behind? Come on.
15 - All cities look alive and are full of buildings. Make it so we can enter those buildings, rob’em, flee, get caught. This would make the world even more alive and, with unique houses with nice, weird, scary, cute or even thrilling things going on inside... Well, I’d pay for that.
16 - Make it so Arthur swims properly.
17 - Let us own a Wagon so I can hunt for longer before having to go back to the trapper or camp.
18 - Game is already rated R. Let Arthur have sex. Dude is always depressive about how no one wants him, give the man a win.
19 - Add more sweet supernatural (or not) mysteries like the vampire in Saint Denis. I was hooked to the game until I solved it and facing the creature at the end was amazing, the reward too. Go full Skyrim and put in a werewolf too.
20 - Let us fly balloons more.
21 - As Arthur, put only the cities of the west on lockdown and let him roam New Austin. I want to ride Arthur through some desert with no law on my ass.
My small list became a 21-item one. Sorry about that. Anything else y’all would add? What can make the best game even better?

I could talk (read: rant) about JWs all day, but one of my least favorite things that they do is prey on the vulnerable to join their cult. They find the people who are really hurting for any reason, and manipulate them into joining. They tell them all about how joining will solve their problems and save them, and so many people fall for it simply because they're desperate for something to make it better.
An aunt of mine was recruited when her marriage started failing and she was deeply upset over it. Sure, the marriage lasted - but only because she was brainwashed into thinking she has no say and has to let her husband do whatever he wants. Another aunt was recruited by the first one when she was a very young, struggling mom after giving birth as a teen.
I didn't talk to or see the second aunt who half-raised me from ages 12-19 because she got sucked in so deeply that she isolated herself from everyone not involved and dodged me and my mother until we stopped trying. We've reconnected, but the relationship will never be the same and will still be tense unless she leaves, and I genuinely do grieve that loss.
It's a cult, 100%.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But isn’t there’s a JW Belief that only a certain number of people get into heaven? And they actively recruit with that

Yeah, I've always heard that JWs are stricter the closer they are to Bethel. They call their cult head quarters and various branch offices in different countries "Bethel." So yeah, I've heard New York JWs are overall stricter. But I'm sure there's plenty of JWs living "double lives" or just generally being lax there too. As long as they never tell on themselves to another JW or elder and to keep those two lives separate. Those lax JWs can be super strict and righteous acting around other JWs and then not around "worldly" people.
I was in California, which is known for being less strict. Partly because of having more money and partly because of the weather. Still fucked up, but overall less strict. I lived in Idaho for a few years while a JW and there was a definite difference there. I think because Idaho in general is a much poorer and more conservative state. The misogyny level definitely got kicked up a few notches and my ex-husband's abuse was much more accepted there.

My neighbors family got kicked out of JW, because their Dad smoked. As a young kid (around 9 or 10) my sis and I had a babysitter that was JW. She would take us to church with her when my mom was at work. (MY MOM WAS PISSED WHEN SHE FOUND OUT). Anyway those sermons scared the shit out of me! And I grew up in the Church of Christ! From what I remember from it, if you weren't in the top 100,000 devout JWs ever....then you were screwed!

Voting is considered to be participating in worldly governments, which are under Satan's control under JW theology.
A JW that votes is considered to have disassociated themselves according to the elder handbook Shepherd the Flock of God. This handbook is not available to lay membership, but has been submitted as part of court cases such as the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse. Evidence in that case and other court cases are available to the public.
According to that book, if the elders find out that a member has voted, that member will most likely be disassociated. They will not be disfellowshipped. This is to get around laws in certain countries that ban religions from preventing their members from voting.
However, the end result of both disassociation and disfellowshipping is the same. In fact, the announcement to the congregation is the same: "Person blank in no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses." The congregation will generally not know whether a person was disassociated or disfellowshipped.
Once that announcement is made, that person will be shunned by anyone who is a JW, including immediate family members. This shunning will continue until the person completes the reinstatement process and the elders feel that person has sufficiently repented. This usually lasts at least 1 year of shunning while maintaining regular meeting attendance. Meetings are twice per week. If the person never completes the reinstatement process for whatever reason, including that they no longer believe in or agree with the religion, they will shunned indefinitely.

I sort of fell away from watching a beauty channel I love, Jaime French, when I found out she is really deep into JW. She has a massive platform, too. She rarely mentions it, but hasn't ever denied it. I guess she isn't mining her viewers for new JWs, but it's still really gross to me, especially because of the huge LGBTQIA+ community in the beauty world.

My kindergarten teacher was a JW and we could never celebrate any holiday in that class. I remember the next class over had a window between their classroom and ours. They had a Halloween party, so all the kids were dressed up and eating candy. While we were learning about Nevada history. It still hurts to think about. :(

They don’t celebrate birthdays either! During my student teaching, I had a 2nd grade student who was JW. We couldn’t celebrate her birthday in class and during the class Valentine’s Day party she had to just go do stuff on the computer because she wasn’t allowed to participate. I’m not real big on the Pledge of Allegiance, but she wasn’t allowed to say it either. She would stand up though. My guess was so she wouldn’t draw attention to herself.

I was associated with the JWs for 20 years. I woke up and left that organization exactly 15 years from my baptism.
It's a straight up cult. It has a lot of abusive practices and dysfunctional people. It's also very misogynistic.
The best thing I can say about JWs is that at least they don't vote.

The lengths JWs have gone to to accommodate decades' worth of their leaders' failed prophecies without going as far to say their leaders were capital-W wrong about anything are an amazing display of mental gymnastics and willful ignorance. How anyone not born into the cult can willingly sign up for it boggles my mind.

It sucks. I missed out on it all until my step dad (not a jw and my mom was disfellowshipped) came into the picture and had me and my siblings celebrating. I got told on by a lady who worked at my elementary school, for dressing up on Halloween. That was when they did the parades in school. She called my dad and told him. I was in the 4th grade and my dad called and chewed me out. I was so upset. I always told myself that my kids will never have to experience what I did and I go all out on holidays. I could never do what they did to my kids. Screw those people for ruining it for children.

It’s mandatory in Australia and you just have to send an excuse letter for why you couldn’t vote, including religious dissent, and it’s fine. If for some reason that didn’t work (it always would though), you can always go to the polling booth and submit a blank voting slip (donkey voting).
I was in Europe for the last federal election and wasn’t able to organise a postal vote or get to an embassy, so I just said as much and they waived the fine.
Edit: so I’m not thread drifting: I know some JWs and they do exactly this.

Grew up a JW. All my dad's side is still JW. I haven't seen them or my dad in years. I don't talk to him. The "religion" messed me up. Some of my mom's side still is, but she isn't. She was treated bad and disfellowshipped/shunned for divorcing my dad. That made me hate the cult more than anything. It was a horrible childhood. Not with my mom because they divorced when I was like 7, but weekends at my dad and step-mom's sucked.

Interesting. Thanks for answering. An old co worker of mine was JW and he never really showed it - he cussed, drank, and was the funniest person i knew. He never talked about it except when he went to church on sundays and took snapchats. It’s such an interesting religion that makes no sense but the more i learn the more fascinated and disturbed i am.

The problem with any question about JW doctrine is that policies and positions seem to fluctuate based on current events and regional circumstances (at least this is what I have gleaned after interfacing with many ex-JWs). This can easily happen with any doomsday cult when the stated deadline for The Great Tribulation comes and goes without any real issue. There was a pretty big scandal in the ‘70s because tons of JWs sold off all their belongings thinking the world would end and it didn’t. This has happened a few times in JW history and they have to flex the messaging to fit the times...
Anyway, I was raised JW and can tell you what I was taught: We are not to believe in the righteousness of sovereign states but instead should live as a brotherhood of man. Jews are the chosen people, and everyone else is just JW or not JW.
Governments and religions are corrupt, worldly constructs. This is the idea behind not voting, not using statues, not celebrating holidays/birthdays (because of pagan traditions), and not pledging allegiance to any country or country symbol (aka the Stars and Stripes).
If you are baptized JW and are good, you will be rewarded with eternal life in the “New System” (paradise on Earth) and possibly the call to serve as a ruler in heaven. If you are not baptized JW and are alive at the time of Armageddon, you will cease to exist. If you died before Armageddon, baptized or not, you will be resurrected and allowed the opportunity to join the New System but can be ejected if you falter. (I think?)
Besides the voting thing, one silver lining of growing up JW is that I was around a diverse range of POC from an early age (and wouldn’t have been otherwise since my immediate community and school were very homogeneous). Equality across race and socioeconomics was built in. However, so were terrible messages about how to parent (abuse), how to govern abuse (ignore or hide it), and how to (not) grow as a person (education discouraged, sex shamed, strong traditional gender roles enforced).

No. All the rules are made by the Governing Body members, who are located in New York. There are currently 8 men in the Governing Body.
There are individual JWs that are pretty lax about following the rules though. As long as they keep everything on the down low, in other words don't let the elders or any devout member that will report on them find out, they may be able to do so for a very long time without being disfellowshipped. Some JWs are more skilled at living what the cult calls a "double life" than others. I was a dumb true believer when I was a JW and always told on myself for every little infraction to the elders.
Your friend is likely just a lax JW.
The dress code is for cult activities only. Meetings, volunteer work, missionary work, preaching, etc. JWs are allowed to dress pretty normally in their private life. Although they are still encouraged to be modest even during non cult activities. JW standards of modesty are not as strict as fundy standards.

Yep. That was my experience as well. I came from a very abusive and dysfunctional home life. I was in and out of foster care growing up. JWs started talking to me when I was only 12 years old. By the time I was 13, I totally believed it was "the truth." I got put back in foster care for a couple of years after that, but got baptized after I got legally emancipated at 17. I had no stability growing up and JWs offered that. I was a young, inexperienced kid with a shitty home life so I was pretty vulnerable to their love bombing and seeming community.
Vulnerable people are great targets for cults. The combination of low self esteem and emotional distress leaves people more vulnerable to the type of psychological manipulation that cults employ. The JW cult certainly isn't unique in that regard. They all use the same tactics, exploit human weaknesses and target the vulnerable.

Yeah but being a fairly open, mainstream religion that does not practice disfellowship (shunning) like Catholicism or even the mainstream Baptist faith and supporting lgbtq+ folks is totally different than being JW and supporting lgbtq+ rights. JW’s can be kicked out of their faith, which also often includes family shunning, for supporting lgtbq+ rights. So chances are this youtuber is not a lgbtq+ rights supporter behind her religions back, as the risk is tenfold higher than in a mainstream faith.

That's not correct.
JW doctrine takes an extreme literal interpretation of the Bible and applies it to their lives. Generic Christianity paraphrases the bible to fit their narrative.
For example: December 25th is not the day Jesus was born. This is a fact. Christianity invented Christmas to coincide with Yule so pagans would be more likely to convert if they can still practice their tradition. That's actually where the Christmas tree tradition comes from because pagans would raise trees in honor of Tyr during yule celebrations.
A more correct statement is that Christianity is similar to JW doctrine. I'm not saying JWs are better, but they are the same brand of corruption and evil.

I know a woman.. or used to know a woman who was an ex-JW. She had 2 kids. She was very liked by a lot of people in the local community. She took her own life, because she was harrased by JW's. It became too much for her. She literally talked to a priest (protestant) for 2 hours everyday the last month of her life, because she couldn't handle it much more. She made several posts on social media, about how her children were the only reason she was alive. You could tell something was wrong.
It was so sad, when we heard about the news about her suicide.

Seems like that happens in all religions, not just Jehovah witnesses.
Not saying it’s right. It’s 100% wrong.

I dated a JW once. It was both of our first gay relationship. Not ashamed of my sexuality but he very much was. The guilt took a HUGE toll on him. There was a lot of emotional abuse and one instance of physical that I let slide because it broke my heart knowing what he was dealing with inside. I tried everything I could to be supportive but when the relationship got to real he'd pull away. I wouldn't react in the best of ways as seeing my first and probably only love slip away was terrifying. I had no idea what JW's were or what the stood for before I met him. After a constant cycle of guilt then breaking up with me cause of it I was left completely broken and shattered after finding out he was also a sex addict and was cheating on me with other guys. They have a great way of making you feel wrong. You can't argue with them because they are literally trained to win debates and arguments and when something doesn't fit their narrative they are quick to shut the conversation down. We'll never speak again....I think about him a lot and wish I was able to atleast have a distant friendship with him but he's fully gone.
They're pretty heartless people, I guess when you can easily cut out anyone in your family cause they don't agree with you they don't get to feel what true unconditional love is. I didn't care what he believed in or what he thought to be the truth was. I just wanted to see him happy with life and himself. He was my best friend...I hope he found some peace.

Lol as an exjw this is a load of horseshit.
You are either woefully misinformed or lying.
You talk like a jw pretending to be a neutral party to try and put the watchtower in a good light. I used to do it too. I still have my old account I used to do this on.

I was forced by my mom to go to the kingdom hall (church) when I was young. Probably from 8-14 years old. I actually never really experience any of the cult stuff that everyone talks about. I always thought they were nice people, just really really into their beliefs. The worst part was going door to door witnessing. It felt so embarrassing as a child and if I saw one of my school friends, I would be made fun of at school.
I was young so I probably didn't notice everything going on around me.
During this pandemic the church services are done through Zoom and they don't go door to door witnessing. I commend them for this.

Ex JW here. Its the worst kind of cult. It shatters family bonds in half. It leaves men with a warped sense of misogynistic power in marriage. It teaches to always self doubt because you need the a governing group of elders to tie your shoes. All free thinking is prohibited.
It is full of unbelievers who only stay out of fear of ostracism, leading to corrupt ranks of closet gays, pedophiles and spousal abusers who enjoy the cult rules that protect them from punishment.
Funny thing, they have a prophecy specifically related to government persecution. So if there happens to be widespread government crackdown on their bullshit cult they will actually redouble their recruiting efforts.
Bunch of fucking clowns.

Christianity, as with Jehovah's Witnesses, have divine revelation at the foundation of the faith. JW beliefs are no more irrational than Christian beliefs.

Fair and reasonable answer.
Sounds like it is good you are away from that level of evil.
I’m sorry it happened to you. I was challenging a jw over shunning and they said “ that’s is the past we don’t do that anymore “ which is theocratic warfare, I’m not a jw so it is good to lie to my face. Amazing. wt teach that.

Except he wasn't. December 25th is not the day Jesus was born, not even by the ancient calendar they used in his time.
December 25th was decided by the clergy to coincide with yule so Christianity would be more appealing for pagans to convert. That's also where the Christmas tree tradition comes into play, because that's a pagan tradition for yule. This a pretty common criticism that even atheists make of Christianity, bcause science and historians uncovered that long ago.
The difference between JW and other Christian denominations is that they take an extremely literal view of the bible and apply it to their lives. As in, their members are expected to actually memorize the Bible and be able to recognize and reference any verse from it. A point of pride for them is that an average JW member should be able to school any average Christian or Catholic in a spiritual debate.
While Christianity over the years has paraphrased its lessons to be more palatable and attract more converts. For JWs, if it wasn't in the bible it didn't happen. They don't believe in baby faced cherubs or the concept of heaven and hell because that stuff is not actually in the bible. The true description of Angels are actually really trippy and the bible states that Heaven is meant to be God's domain with no admittance for humans. The Heaven/Hell thing was basically the Santa Claus nice/naughty list.
I'm not a JW, but I gave them a shot because my sister is one. She wasn't forced to cut us off or anything like that. If anything, my family treated her like shit for it. They taught me what they were all about, but eventually asked that I commit to join. My sister didn't pressure me or anything, but I chose not to. The person teaching me didn't mind and my sister didn't mind. We all still talk to this day as friends. I was interested in seeing why people hated them and I still don't see it.
I've asked them directly all the questions and issues I've heard:
Asked them about their extreme view on the patriarchy and nuclear family. They told me technically that only applies as long as the husband is acting within his capacity as a true Christian. If he's being abusive or something, he is obviously no longer acting like a Christian. Under their own doctrine, he would be cast out and ostracized while the wife and family should be supported.
Asked them about their stance on Holidays: if they're not in the Bible, they don't celebrate. As in, the bible specifically has to state that they recognize holiday. The only one that applies is Easter for the resurrection. There is no biblical mandate to celebrate Christmas and Jesus was not born on the 25th of December.
Their door to door recruitment: the bible actually does state that it is the duty of a Christian to teach their faith and seek to convert as many people as possible.
For the record, I am an atheist. When I was younger, I flirted with the idea of becoming spiritual. However, that was mostly my curiosity about my sister's religion. As an organization, I'm sure the crimes and abuses are true. However, every sect of Christianity is evil and abusive at the administration and organizational level. At a grassroots, local level I respect JWs more than other Christians. At least they're all-in and not picking what's convenient for them.

I'm sorry but even through you've rejected the JW religion, you're still carrying around some of the brainwashing they left you with.
Virtually all fundamentalist protestant sects pride themselves on biblical inerrancy and their adherence to it and by no strech of the imagination do the JWs have a unique claim to being "all-in". They pick and choose like any other as the core problem of fundamentalism is that the language of the bible is too far removed for a truly "accurate" translation in to today's understanding.
Again, and I don't mean to be so personal, but the way that you split Christianity into "generic Christian" / Catholic / JW shows that you don't understand the true diversity within Christianity. JW is about the worst example of fundamentalists that I could think of and that's not because fundamentalists are some category worth defending. And to defend more mainline chruches, evolving with the times is something that they pride themselves in and dismissing that as "picking and choosing" is the exact sort of divisive propaganda that a shunning religion like JW has indoctrinated you with.

From what I can tell that one video got like 30k+ upvotes, then it triggered a flood of others. I'm glad it did because I know JWs, and didn't know shit about their religion...

As an Ex-Catholic atheist with a close JW coworker, I basically agree with your take.
  • Jesus was most likely not born on Dec 25th.
  • JWs often have much of the Bible memorized
  • Few holidays, no birthday celebrations.
  • Heaven and Hell concept is separate from common view point.
At a grassroots, local level I respect JWs more than other Christians
I think you're getting some criticism about this, but I get what your saying. To me, I have seen many people who claim to be Christians. They go to church, maybe donate or whatever, but for them it's just a club with social perks and a sense of self-righteousness. It seems almost superficial. It's not the core of their life. In the case of JWs and a handful of other denominations, this behavior appears less common (although still present).

Is something happening right now? Lots of posts about JWs today in this sub and I can't tell if they're a response to something contemporary or if the sub is just on a JW kick today.

I was working with a JW a few weeks ago and when I started googling around a bit I thought it was funny that many of the sites being critical of them were other Christian sects.

2020.09.23 05:02 TossNShake Bootysothick

Starting price of $20.
You see their Pornhub page? That's basically what you get when you subscribe to their OnlyFans.
So why subscribe? In addition to supporting the creators, instead of the 3-5min clips on Pornhub(Which are also really good), you get extended videos and many OnlyFans exclusive videos. It's been a few months since I last subscribed, but I also remember there being some solo masturbation clips as well. They were also open to feedback and posted daily. On top of all the sex tapes they make, you also get the typical OnlyFans content of a bunch of pictures and random short clips.
Compared to their Pornhub videos, the video quality for their OnlyFans content is also noticeably better. I know some people don't care about video quality much, but it's a big deal to me. If I'm paying for porn it better look better than your average Pornhub video.
The downsides? $20 may be a bit steep for some. You also never get to see their faces, but personally, that doesn't bother me. I understand that some people want to keep their identities private.
Also, there is no PPV content. You pay once and gain access to everything. And best of all, you can use their Pornhub page as a sort of preview of their OnlyFans page since the content is very similar. Don't like what you see? Don't think they're attractive? Don't subscribe. IMO, Bootysothick are one of the better OnlyFans creators out there.
Would I resubscribe? Yes.
Edit: They just updated their page and it's currently on sale for $16.

2020.09.23 02:33 SkyAnimal For fun, I compiled a Timeline of Archaeological, Genetic, and Geologic data. I think this is the audience that would appreciate it. (My observations in the comment section.)

A timeline of Human Development, using archaeological, genetic, and geologic data:
Earth's orbit experiences a Orbital Eccentricity, 100,000 year cycle orbit and inclination variation, going from circular to elliptical, the hemispheres experience more or less sun or exposure to the sun for extended periods, causing ice ages. Scientists estimate we are near the minimum, a 6% change in solar energy. At peak, the earth experiences a change of 30%.
44 million y a - Hominid ancestors acquire Herpes virus.
10 million y a - Primate ancestors develop genes to digest alcohol.
6 million years ago - Primate ancestors split from Chimpanzee/Bonobo line (15 million DNA mutations have occurred since then; each person born today has 100 mutations distinct to them, most don’t survive.)
5.3 m y a - Mediterranean Sea experiences the Messinian Salinity Crisis, for 600,000 years the Straight of Gibraltar closed off, causing the Mediterranean to shrink down to two inland seas with Italy and Greece separating them. Ends in the Zanclean Flood, a river of Atlantic sea water flows thru Gibraltar and fills the Mediterranean in 2 years.
5 m y a - Arabian-African continent reconnects with Asia.
4 - 3 m y a - Hominid ancestors acquire pubic lice from Gorillas (genetic evidence).
3.6 - 2.58 m y a - Considered the Neogene Period.
3.3 m y a - Stone tools found in Kenya and Ethiopia.
3-1.4 m y a - Chimpanzee Herpes oral virus mutates into Hominid genital virus, cross species transmission (Homo Habilis or Paranthropus Boisei).
2.6 m y a - Mode One Stone Tools found in Ethiopia, would subsequently spread. Flourished to 1.7 million y a in southern and eastern Africa. Palaeolithic (Old Stone Age) Era (2.6 m y a till end of last Ice Age, 11,000 y a). Subdivided into the Early- or Lower Palaeolithic (c. 2,6 million years ago - c. 250,000 years ago); the Middle Palaeolithic (c. 250,000 years ago - c. 30,000 years ago); and the Late- or Upper Palaeolithic (c. 50,000/40,000 - c. 10,000 years ago
2.58 million - 11,700 years ago - Considered the start of the Quaternary Period, and covers the Pleistocene.
2 m years ago - Earliest Hominids start eating meat.
1.89 m y a - Earliest evidence of Homo Erectus (first to leave Africa and spread across Asia).
1.8 m years ago - Mode One Stone Tools found on Java.
1.7 m years ago - Mode Two Stone Tools (slicing, butchering, evidence of drilling tools) appear in Kenya and southern Africa.
1.6 m years ago - Mode One Stone Tools found in northern China.
1.6 - 1.5 m y a - Africa, Turkana Boy dies, likely from a tooth cavity infection. He was either 8 or 11-12 years old and 61 inches tall. Brain 880 ccm.
1.5 m y a - Kenya, possible start of Hominids using fire to cook food. (increase in caloric intake, which would lead to evolution; however, Paranthropus Boisei is the local species, brain 500-550 ccm, 54 inches tall)
1 million years ago - Likely split between ancestor of Homo Sapiens and proto-Neanderthal-Denisovan species. (Mitochondrial DNA evidence.) South Africa, evidence of fire use for cooking.
1 m - 700,000 y a - Java, Java Man dies, brain 900 ccm. 5' 8" tall.
820,000 - 580,000 y a - Durum Wheat develops out of natural hybridization with Einkorn Wheat (genetic analysis).
800,000? y a - Low world temperatures recorded. Height of Ice Age?
790,000 y a - Levant, oldest Fire hearths found. (Homo Heidelbergensis, 1,250 ccm brain, 69 in tall)
740,000? y a - Height of Ice Age?
640,000? y a - Height of Ice Age.
550,000? y a - Height of Ice Age?
540,000 - 430,000 y a - Art: Sea shell formed into decoration by Homo Erectus. (Could indicate when sea shells began to be used as whistles and horns.)
530,000? y a - Interglacial Peak (between Ice Ages, high CO2 content in the atmosphere, 524-474,000).
500,000 y a - South Africa, evidence of Spears. (Would become common 300,000 years ago.)
450,000 y a - Earliest evidence of Neanderthal.
450,000 y a - Global temperatures had dropped, stayed that way for thousands of years.
430,000 - 230,000 y a - Durum Wheat cross-breeds with wild Goat Grass (genetic analysis).
400,000 y a - Interglacial Peak (between Ice Ages, 424-374,000).
400,000 y a - Germany, oldest Spears found. France (Terra Amata), possible evidence of manmade shelter using prepared wood.
360,000? y a - Height of Ice Age.
310,000 y a - Interglacial Peak (between Ice Ages, 337-300,000).
300,000 y a - Kenya, oldest evidence of Ochre rocks being used for pigment.
300,000-200,000 y a - Origin of Male Y-Chromosome that all current males are descended from. (40% of males do not reproduce.)
270,000? y a - Height of Ice Age.
240,000 y a - Interglacial Peak (between Ice Ages, 242–230,000).
200,000 y a - France, evidence of Neanderthals fishing. "Mitochondrial Eve," source of all Human Haplo-groups that everyone is descended from, existed at this time. Scientists think that language with well formed, meaningful sentences was achieved (migration patterns, anatomy, tool making; some argue that truly modern language is 50,000 years old).
194,000-135,000 y a - Penultimate Glacial Period.
190,000 y a - Early evidence of Denisovans. (At least three interbreeding events would occur with Homo Sapiens. EPAS1 gene, hemoglobin concentration, Tibetan plateau.)
190,000-50,000 y a - Flores Island, evidence of tool use by the Human Hobbit.
170,000 - 80,000 y a - Body Lice evolve (genetic evidence, feed on human skin, live in clothing; evidence of clothing)
140,000 y a - Homo Sapiens found in Europe.
130,000 y a - Evidence of humans in North America. Crete, earliest human settlements found on the island. Art: Neanderthal necklace made of eagle talons. Croatia: Neanderthal teeth show possible dental work.
125,000 y a - Interglacial Peak (between Ice Ages, 130-115,000). Sea levels 4-6 meters (18 feet) higher then today.

2020.09.23 02:20 TAU247 Why is it that close-in-age relationships where one happens to be a minor are still viewed as predatory?

Firstly, I completely 100% understand why very young kids and preteens cannot ever meaningfully consent, it's extremely obvious. I also understand that a younger teen/adolescent getting into a relationship and getting groomed is by definition harmful and manipulative and why their consent is still very limited. However, I have also noticed a relatively shocking trend all over social media, but Twitter and Reddit seem to be the worst examples of this. I see often how an 18-20 year old may be in a relationship with someone who is like 17 or so may still be considered a pedophile. This happens across Twitter, for example, where someone will claim that an 18-year old groomed a 16-17 year old or a 20 year old will be called a pdophile for engaging in consensual (as per where the laws were at the time) sex with someone who is 17. For example, I will see 3 year or even 2 year gaps often get called out and the older person will be called a pdo even on many subreddits. Yet I rarely ever see anyone question these things, especially due to the close age difference. I am also aware that not everywhere has Romeo and Juliet laws, but it certainly seems odd that not everywhere does or that it is not widely accepted. I'm not really sure that something illegal should mean it is p*dophilia. And also, I see nothing wrong with questioning whether a 3-4 year gap at those ages is acceptable, but at least it should be taken into account. Also, I have looked into many of the situation types I listed above to see if they involved additional non-consent or manipulation (i.e the Miniladd situation), but often they do not. Even then, I really question if called them the p-word is even acceptable. All in all, this has really frustrated me for a while and I have no idea how to get this out, maybe just because it makes little sense.
I also want to note that one is considered a minor, but people gradually mature over time and dont go from being a young child to fully grown adult immediately.
TL;DR.: I am questioning why close in age gaps where a legal adult is sexual towards a legal minor but they are only 1-3 years older is often just as despised on the internet as obviously predatory sht (like a 25 y/o grooming a 13 y/o)
Also, I did notice the policy against pdo related topics, but I hope this can be an exception because this is by no circumstances attempting to accept things that are blatantly predatory or pdophilic, or asking things like "Why cant I date 9-13 year olds?" and then trying to justify something on that level. That is obviously horrific and never okay at all.

2020.09.22 19:33 AnalysisJeremy Shameless has very flawed morality

Their is a worrying amount of underage people having sex with adults, I'll give examples from series 1-series 6:
Ian and Kash- this one wasn't that bad as Kash wasn't preying on Ian so I can give it a pass (Ian was 15 and Kash was in his 20's) and I also am fully confident in saying that Kash is not a nonce
However I really feel uncomfortable with the sexualisation of Debbie
She forms a relationship with a police officer and the show suggests that their relationship isn't bad (none of the characters are bothered except for Carl) and they even get a cheer once they confirm that their dating.
Very odd but the show writers did have some balls doing something so controversial and without showing us any sex scenes
What I hate more is what happens after season 5; Debbie is seen on the James Bond parody introduction dancing in a sexually suggestive manner whilst wearing revealing clothing. Like wtf she's barely 16 at that point, it wasn't too long ago that we saw her as a legit child. She is doing that alongside other adult women, the show is implying that Debbie is mature enough to pose suggestively, I disagree
Maxine also makes a comment that Debbie "keeps stealing men away from me." Yo like what is going on? I do like the idea that Debbies family corrupted her, and if that was the story they went for then kudos.
She also dates a student in season 6 and their is a graphic sex scene with them, like its a bit weird mate
Finally, Shameless has weird morality in general, they presented Ian repressing his homosexuality in season 6-7 as a good thing and felt that Maxine did the right thing by getting an abortion (up to personal beliefs, I think abortion is murder)

What are your guys thoughts? Does the show insert its own voice to express morality or not?

2020.09.22 19:16 GiveArcanaPlox Trying to gather as much examples of JWs doctrine being clearly opposed to the Bible or NWT changing Bible text for their benefit, help appreciated!

Just like the title says, I'm trying to find as many simple examples of JWs teachings that are clearly opposed to the Bible. Personally I no longer believe in sancticity of the Bible or existance of a Christian god for that matter, but I have a lot of friends who might benefit from that.
So, I hope we can have a nice discussion and I will add your ideas!
- All nonJW are going to die in Armageddon
This has been stated multiple times in the Watchtower, even as recently as 2019, but some quotes to easily navigate would be nice:
"In effect, Jesus also conveys Jehovah’s voice to us as he directs the congregation through “the faithful and discreet slave.” (Matt. 24:45) We need to take this guidance and direction seriously, for our everlasting life depends on our obedience." Watchtower 2014 Aug 15 p.21
1 Timothy 2:3, 4 - This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth.
Not only is loving god going to kill billions of people, but also this just god is planning to destroy whole countries that still haven't had a chance of even hearing the gospel, not even the JWs version of it, as well as hundreds of millions of children who still haven't had the chance to make a decision.
- Abstaining from blood even if it means death
" Jehovah's witnesses do not argue that blood transfusions have not kept alive patients who otherwise might have died." Blood, Medicine and The Law of God p.38
Matthew 12:11 - Who will be the man among YOU that has one sheep and, if this falls into a pit on the sabbath, will not get hold of it and lift it out? All considered, of how much more worth is a man than a sheep!
Abstaining from blood was a way of showing respect for life, which was symbolized by blood. JWs though refuse to have a blood transfusion even if it might result in death, which is in clear opposition with what Jesus said about healing on the Sabbath. It also shows that they completely misunderstood what blood stands for in the Bible.
- Salvation obtainable through people and not Jesus
"We need to obey the faithful and discreet slave to have Jehovah’s approval." Watchtower 2011 Jul 15 p.24
John 10:9 NWT - I am the door; whoever enters through me will be saved.
John 17:3 NWT - This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
- Instances of clear Bible text alteration
Numbers 31:18 NWT - But you may keep alive all the young girls who have not had sexual relations with a man.
Numbers 31:18 Hebrew Interlinear - But all the young women who not have known intimately a man keep alive for yourselves.
Even though Hebrew text clearly says that YHWH orders Israelites to keep young (from the historical context we know they would have been underage) girls as sex slaves, NWT completely omitts it.
Matthew 28:17 NWT - When they saw him, they did obeisance, but some doubted.
Matthew 28:17 Kingdom Interlinear - And having seen him they did obeisance, the (ones) but doubted
Matthew 28:17 Interlinear - And having seen Him they wroshiped; some however doubted.
Word προσεκύνησαν, is translated as "worshiped" by Strong's Greek Concordance and pretty much every single translation except for NWT. One of many cases of JWs tempering with this particular word in Greek Scriptures in order to show that all the worship is due for god only, even if it means going against the Bible. Compare with Hebrew 1:6.
John 14:11 NWT - Believe me that I am in union with the Father and the Father is in union with me
John 14:11 Kingdom Interlinear - Be YOU believing to me that I in the Father and the Father in me
The word union is simply added in NWT so it doesn't seem to support the existance of the Trinity.
Colossians 1:16 NWT - All other things have been created through him and for him.
Colossians 1:16 Kingdom Interlinear - the all (things) through him and into him it has been created.
The word other is simply added to NWT so it doesn't seem like Jesus has created everything, since this is apparently what god did.
Luke 23:43 NWT - And he said to him: “Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in Paradise.”
Luke 23:43 Kingdom Interlinear - And he said to him Amen to you I am saying, today with me you will be in the Paradise.
Notice how shifting the coma completely changed what it means - the original script clearly says that he will be in the Paradise the same day, whereas in NWT Jesus merely mentions today as an unimportant addition, not having anything to do with the actual semantics.
Also, there is a missing article the in NWT, but I have no clue if it means anything, especially taking into consideration that it's also missing from Interlinear Bible.
Acts 20:28 NWT - To shepherd the congregation of God, which he purchased with the blood of his own Son.
Acts 20:28 Kingdom Interlinear - To be shepherding the ecclesia of the God which he reserved for self through the blood of the own (one).
No matter what does it mean (and for me it seems clear it's one of those verses that say Jesus is the same as God), it's a clear alteration of the original text.
John 14:14 NWT - If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
John 14:14 Kingdom Interlinear - If ever anything YOU should ask me in the name of me this I shall do.
JW has removed Jesus' words in which he says that prayers can and should be directed to him, that we should be asking him. Of course JW has its own ideas about Jesus' position, so they had removed the word me from their translation.
Galatians 6:1 NWT - Brothers, even if a man takes a false step before he is aware of it, you who have spiritual qualifications try to readjust such a man in a spirit of mildness.
Galatians 6:1 Kingdom Interlinear - Brothers, if ever also should be undertaken man in some falling beside, YOU the spiritual (ones) be YOU adjusting down the such (one) in spirit of mildness.
I'm disfellowshipped and partially shunned, so that hits close to home - here we have a clear order to try and spiritually help your brethren even if they make a false step changed so that it should be left only to elders.
Hebrews 12:28 NWT - Therefore, seeing that we are to receive a Kingdom that cannot be shaken.
Hebrews 12:28 Kingdom Interlinear - Through which kingdom unshakable (ones) receiving beside.
Present tense (meaning they were already receiving the Kingdom, didn't need to wait until 1914) changed into awaiting for the Kingdom, which obviously plays well with JWs narrative.
Colossians 2:9 NWT - Because it is in him that all the fullness of the divine quality dwells bodily.
Colossians 2:9 Kingdom Interlinear - Because in him is dwelling down all the fullness of the divinity bodily.
Obviously divinity and divine quality are not the same, but it's just another example of JW tempering with the original text to hide what does it have to say about Jesus' nature.
- Anyone has some more? Maybe we could pin this post so that it would be nice and easy for those who wish to find some bullet points?

2020.09.22 19:14 yaboiet2k I want to hate her.

(For context, I was in foster care and recently adopted. I was 16/17 during this time frame. I’m 20 now. I also apologize for making this as long as it is, TL;DR at the bottom)
My ex and I were friends for three years. We always talked about dating and sex, but never really did because one of us was always in a relationship. I was a bit of an online slut as well, so that also played a huge role.
We started dating back in 2017, after I ended a relationship with my gf at the time for family reasons. She was so happy would finally be a couple. Finally, after three damn years, we’d be dating. The only problem was that it was long distance.
For the 6 months we were dating, I called her whenever my dad wasn’t home. (I wasn’t allowed to date anyone) I called her at night, whenever my dad was asleep, and we’d be on the phone for hours, talking, laughing, and NSFW stuff. We made it work.
In December 2017, she and I arranged a meetup at my place while dad wasn’t home. It would be the first time we’d see each other since 2015. She was there for 4 or 5 hours. We slept, cuddled, watched some Teen Titans, and had sex (for the first time, we both lost our v-cards that day). We made promises to each other then and there we’d be together forever. We needed that day together, and I was so happy I was able to pull it off.
After that day though, things started to turn. She understood why we couldn’t see each other, but she was still sour as to why we couldn’t. I really tried to make it work, but she wouldn’t really hear it.
For the next month, she proceeds to accuse me of cheating with girls from my school, and online. I’m not one to cheat in a relationship, so I did my best to show her I wasn’t the internet whore she knew me for.
The following month, she was the only personI talked to, with the exception of 2 friends she was okay with. She met a guy sometime in February, and they started hanging out. I told her he wants to get in your pants, but brushed it off and said “He’s just a friend.” I trusted her and thought she’d never cheat on me.
2 weeks later, they fucked in the backseat of his car.
Me, confused, told her that I’d give her a second chance. I really don’t know what went through my head when I said that. She ended up cheating on me again. With the same dude. I was pissed, and really didn’t know what to think. I, stupidly, gave her one more chance. Take a guess what she did.
I was hurt, confused, and angry. I didn’t know what to do anymore. “I waited 3 years for 6 months? Why did I even waste my time?” The two friends I had really helped me get through what I went through. One of them told me to make sure she actually cheated on me. So I figured out her logins to instagram.
Honestly, I shouldn’t have.
The texts were explicit, and the texting was going on three months into the relationship. I knew then it was time to get even.
So from that day in February, until the end of March, I made life hell for her. I wanted her to know how much I hated her. I harassed her. I stalked her. I threatened her. I threatened the guy she cheated on me with, and spat his dead mothers name in the dirt. I wanted them to hate me. I called her a slut, sloppy seconds, and other things publicly on social media. My friends messaged her and called her a slut. Every day for 3 weeks, I harassed her until she was at the point of suicide. That’s when I knew it was time to stop. Not because I thought it was wrong, but because I felt like I got my revenge.
I didn’t want her to die, I wanted her to suffer.
After that, I didn’t talk to her for months. People told me I needed to apologize for what I did. I didn’t. I didn’t feel bad for what I did. I still don’t. I don’t love her anymore.
At least that’s what I thought.
About 2 months ago, my current gf started talking to her. I don’t know why I felt this overbearing sense of guilt. So of course, I started talking to her as well. Like everything I did, and she did, never happened. Over time the hate I had for her left. And we’re aquatinted again. She apologized multiple times for cheating on me, and she wished I never got into a relationship, because she wants to try again.
I don’t love her, the feeling I had for her when we dated is gone. But for some reason, I’m not against the idea of going at it one more time. I shouldn’t. I should hate her. Why don’t I?
TL;DR: My ex cheated on me a couple years ago, and now my gf and her are talking, and so are we. What the fuck should I do?

2020.09.22 16:16 Old_42 Cheated on via text message

Married since 2002. 2 kids. Oldest (F17) has severe anxiety & depression. Been a rough 7 or 8 years for us dealing with that. Every waking moment is spent catering to her needs and walking on eggshells. She's been in and out of programs, therapy, hospitals…
Wife stayed home with the kids for many years. Went back to teaching, had to quit for daughter's mental health issues last October and went back this year as a paraprofessional, working with emotionally disturbed kids. She was at her job for a week when she met a guy at the school and they started exchanging text messages. Apparently he "complimented her eyes" and that erased 18 years of me toiling and scraping and catering to her every need and whim. Things got sexually heated (she swears only on text).
I found out because she accidentally sent a message meant for him, to me and lied about it. I looked at the text logs and google searched the number. And confronted her with the guys name. Verizon lets you pull down the logs in a spreadsheet which I did, but at the time I was just looking for the latest text exchange before me. This was on Wednesday of last week. She swore it was never physical. Just a fantasy. It only lasted a couple of weeks. She just met the guy. Hardly knows him. Yada, yada, yada. I was devastated. Hurt. Disrespected. Betrayed. We worked on it all weekend. Talked it through. I thought we were going to be okay.
Yesterday, I realized I wasn't okay with it. I pulled up the spreadsheet and sorted it. In the span of 6 days, (9/11- 9/17) they exchanged 2,399 messages. In SIX days. Some while I was laying in bed sleeping next to her. 2,399 text messages are normal for someone who's not trying to build a relationship, right? I can’t access anything before 9/11, so I don’t know how many more thousands of messages there may have been.
This isn't the first time. Back when oldest was a baby, a sexually explicit email with an ex popped up through a mailer daemon error or I never would have seen that. We hadn’t been married long and I figured then that I wasn't giving her what she needed. That if I tried a little harder to be a better husband and father I could keep her from looking elsewhere. So I tried. Got a better paying job. Tried to make a home she could be proud of. Take care of our kids. Live a happy life. But nothing seemed to be enough. I always felt like she was still dissatisfied with my efforts. Never happy about anything.
Then she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and depression and life kept shitting on us. She went through med changes and medical oddities, all those years she wasn't interested in sex, I figured at least it wasn't me. I wasn't why she had zero sex drive.
And when she did have sex with me I felt like it was a chore. Something she had on her to-do list that she just had to get through so she could cross it off. Couldn't touch her there or do that for this reason or that. Headaches and body aches and too tired and haven't showered and the kids aren't asleep and on and on... but I thought, hey. at least she's not interested in sex with anyone else so it's not just me. I took some solace in that. There was even a stretch where I thought maybe she were gay but she was just staying with me because of the kids.
She was sexually abused as a kid, so I figured with her complicated past, it was best not to bring it up or force the issue. So I didn't. I thought I was being a noble man. Putting her needs and happiness first. Which I always did. I didn't want to lose her or what we had. What we both worked so hard for.
So, I got the "not feeling attractive to the person you love" thing. I went through it for a lot of years. I never cheated on her. Never even thought about it. Not physically or otherwise.
That text told me it wasn't a lack of interest in sex or intimacy. It was a lack of interest in me. As soon as I read it, I knew it wasn't meant for me. There was more passion in that text than I think she’d ever shown to me. I felt physically ill. My heart was pounding. I felt like I failed again. If there was something you wanted or needed from me, I wish she would have told me. If everything I've done in the past 20+ years we've been together didn't tell her I would move mountains to make her happy, I don't know what else I could have done.
I know I'm a dumpster fire right now. No one knows it more than I. I probably shouldn't have let failure after failure to fix everything around me wear me down like it has. The whole world is shit, work is shit and I have no refuge at home from it because there's always some new crisis I can't fix waiting there. So yeah, I probably haven't been trying very hard lately.
Maybe nothing physical happened with this guy. I don't know. Maybe it doesn't even matter if it was physical or just fantasy. I don't know. Maybe there have been others in between. Maybe that doesn't matter either. It's a matter of trust, I guess. I just don't know anymore. I'm tired. I'm broken. I'm hurting. But I have never been so much as I am right now.
Now she’s asking me to trust her. Trust it never got physical. Trust it never happened with anyone else behind my back. Trust her after all of this.
Text log:
9/11 - 176 to her, 148 from her. (324)
9/12 - 311 to her, 218 from her. (529)
9/13 - 340 to her, 245 from her. (585)
9/14 - 280 to her, 208 from her. (488)
9/15 - 206 to her, 153 from her. (359)
9/16 - 61 to her, 50 from her. (111 All before 10 a.m. when I got the message meant for him.)
